KAYA TOAST

Have you had Kaya Toast? Best enjoyed with coffee or tea, it is best for breakfast, or as a mid-day-afternoon snack. I had Kaya Toasts in Singapore, and craved for this whenever around the shopping malls in Makati in the Philippines--- unfortunately, Singapore restaurant chain Toast Box has closed its Manila branches as of mid 2018.

A Kaya Toast is simply 2 slices of toasted bread with butter and coconut jam spread. It is simple. The taste is light, but divine. One serving of Kaya Toast is never enough.

INGREDIENTS:

2 Slices of white sandwich bread

Kaya (coconut jam)

Thin slices of cold butter

INSTRUCTIONS:

Grill or toast the breads. Trim off the crusts.

Slice breads into halves to make 2 sandwiches.

Spread Kaya generously on top of toasted breads, about 1-2 Tablespoons per slice of bread.

Cut pieces of cold butter thinly and place on top of one toast.

Place other toasted bread on top of toast with Kaya and butter to make a sandwich.

Slice the toast in half to make 2 sandwiches.
